What Our FAMM Practitioners Are Saying

in their own words

We asked. They answered. Here’s what women’s health professionals say about their experience in FAMM.

  • “FAMM completely changed my practice.”
Before FAMM, I didn’t have the structure I have now. Using fertility awareness and cycle charting as a diagnostic tool is completely integrated into my practice. It’s at the centre of my signature offering. I increased my prices, and I’m generating the most revenue that I ever have.

Haley Smith, Women’s Health Nutritionist, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “I enjoyed every minute of it!”
I would recommend FAMM to every professional working with women. I enjoyed every minute of it! The format worked so well with my learning style. I feel empowered in learning about how to support my own fertility and excited to share what I’ve learned with my clients.

Amy Sedgwick, LMT, Licensed Massage Therapist, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “It was the best decision I made last year, 100%.”
FAMM gave me the confidence to teach fertility awareness with real specificity, tailoring support to exactly where someone is in their cycle. I remember looking at the website and seeing the outline of the syllabus and thinking, ‘This is it. This is what I need.’ I signed up really late — just before Christmas — and it was the best decision I made last year, 100%.

Katy Ewen, Reflexologist, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “I feel so much more capable and confident”
The program has definitely helped me understand my cycle in depth far more than I ever did before. As a practitioner, I feel so much more capable and confident in helping my clients with the variations that they have in their cycle. I didn’t know how to help people who wanted to use fertility awareness postpartum for family planning, and now I know how to do that. If you choose to do this program, you will learn so much not only for yourself but also for all of the clients that you work with.

    — Rebekah Mustaleski, Certified Midwife
  • “I’ve been working in women’s health for ten years, and I’m just sad I went so long without this.”
I had read all of Lisa’s books, Taking Charge of Your Fertility, and listened to probably every episode of her podcast — and FAMM was still a whole other level. My practice is completely different now. I’ve been working in fertility and women’s health for ten years, and I’m just sad that I went so long without having this level of information.

Holly Leever, Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “A phenomenal program for health professionals”
As a Preconception Health Coach & Holistic Nutritionist, I was looking for a certification program that would help me bridge the gap between menstrual cycles and fertility. Learning alongside Lisa was an incredible experience! Her patience, attention to detail, wealth of knowledge and passion for this subject helped me learn in a way that could not be done through a self-guided program.

    — Nora Debora, Preconception Health Coach, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “I definitely recommend this program to any practitioner who is interested in offering Fertility Awareness in their practice.”
Lisa offers a comprehensive program where she shares her extensive knowledge and experience working with Fertility Awareness clients. She gives clear guidance on Fertility Awareness techniques and how to teach FAMM to clients. The material was engaging and fun! Lisa creates a warm and inviting space for students to learn. I definitely recommend this program to any practitioner who is interested in offering Fertility Awareness in their practice. You will come away with not only the tools to help clients but also many helpful resources and most importantly a solid foundation on why this work is called the Fifth Vital Sign!

Lilliana Rivera, LMT, Abdominal Massage Therapy, Womb Awareness Coaching
  • “FAMM absolutely exceeded my expectations.”
FAMM absolutely exceeded my expectations and was a great investment in myself and my clients. It is comprehensive and well thought out, providing the knowledge and skills necessary for practitioners to help clients achieve a greater understanding of their bodies, cycles, menstrual health, and overall health.

I highly recommend the FAMM Certification program for practitioners looking to enhance and deepen the services they offer to support their clients’ reproductive wellness. Because of Lisa and FAMM, I feel very well-equipped and excited to help my clients understand and use fertility awareness to achieve their reproductive goals.

Rebecca R. Susi, LCMT, PCES, SpBAP, Abdominal Therapist & FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “It’s given me the confidence to support women in this field.”
If you were thinking this is the area you want to move into, and you want more information to better support clients, this course gives you the structure and all the information you need to know about the menstrual cycle and hormones. There have definitely been some enlightening moments that updated what I learned in my degree! As a practitioner, you always want to feel like you’re doing the best you can for your clients, and I feel really well-equipped now. It’s given me the confidence to support women in this field. If this is the area you want to be working in, then it’s a bit of a no-brainer, really.

Rose Constantine Smith, Women’s Health Nutritionist, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “Lisa’s guidance and feedback didn’t just help me build my knowledge base, but my ability to be confident when working with clients — 10/10 recommend.”
As a newbie practitioner, FAMM was exactly what I needed. Not only did the content directly apply to clients in my practice (no fluff!), but the small group setting made it easy for me to ask questions. Lisa’s guidance and feedback didn’t just help me build my knowledge base, but my ability to be confident when working with clients. She helped me become a better guide and coach and think through period problems more critically. 10/10 recommend.

Dani Sheriff, Women’s Health Coach, The HA Society, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “Just stop thinking and just sign up!”
Just stop thinking and just sign up! I definitely overthought it for too long, and I’m just so, so glad I did it. Seeing so many different scenarios showed me how complex this actually is. You have so many more years of experience than the average person in this field, and even when there wasn’t a perfect study, you could pull from years of client experience — and that was invaluable to learn from.

    Brittany Cornish, Fertility Awareness Educator
  • “I really love that it’s not just learning how to interpret charts.”
FAMM definitely gives you a whole other bag of tools than you’ve ever had before. Lisa has so many resources. I really love that it’s not just learning how to interpret charts — there are so many resources and foundations to help. I see it as adding to my practice  — both with midwifery and my Arvigo work — but also as an additional offering.

    Kate Chantry, Licensed Midwife
  • “It’s been probably the best part about this year for me.”
What I’ve loved about this program is that it has been better than I anticipated. Every certification that I’ve done up until this point, if there’s a live element, it’s screens off and nobody talks. I love that that’s not the case here. You can ask as many questions as you want. It’s been probably the best part about this year for me — and I definitely did not have time for it (haha). So if you think that’s you, you’ll figure it out. I’m really glad that I did.

  • “FAMM provided a much more systemized approach and clinical approach.”
FAMM provided a much more systemized approach and clinical approach. The introductory fertility awareness training I had, for lack of better words, was more loosey-goosey, whereas FAMM was very much strategy and diagnostic focused.

What I appreciate most is her teaching style and the resources she provided. We have a library of vetted research studies that we can use, and I still pull from it. I love the research, but her eye for picking it out, breaking it down, and then teaching us how to apply it — that was the biggest game changer for me.

I also walked away with colleagues that have turned into some of my best friends that I’m still in touch with today. We send charts back and forth; we collaborate. So those connections are something that I really valued.

Haley Smith, Women’s Health Nutritionist, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “My practice is completely different now.”
My practice is completely different now. I created a course and a mentorship program where people get access to my courses and one-on-one sessions. Without having taken FAMM, I really wouldn’t be able to do this as an acupuncturist, because there are limitations to what you can provide in an in-person setting.

I was working in fertility in particular and definitely very interested in women’s health for 10 years. And I knew a little bit about fertility awareness — I learned about BBT 10 years before I took this class, I learned a little bit about cervical mucus — and I’m just sad that I went so long in my practice without having this level of information. I would just encourage anyone that works in women’s health to take this program.

  • “I finally understand cervical mucus. That is so invaluable.”
Taking the course was so informative, especially the in-depth cervical mucus charting. I had at some point prior to reading The Fifth Vital Sign read Taking Charge of Your Fertility and so that’s where my cycle journey began. I remember running into a lot of walls and a lot of questions about my cervical mucus. Nothing in that book, none of the pictures, none of the descriptions actually went over what I was seeing. I had no idea what my charts meant. They weren’t textbook charts. It made me really frustrated and I ended up stopping for a while because I couldn’t make sense of it.

Once I started FAMM, I finally understood cervical mucus — how to check for it, how to interpret it, and what it all means. Now I can look at my whole chart and actually figure out what I’m seeing. Also, having the opportunity to take clients through the whole process and then getting feedback in real time — that made it so valuable to me.

    — Amanda Borucki, Holistic Health Practitioner, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “You totally upped the quality of my business!”
I wanted to feel more confident and responsible, giving accurate, science-based information to especially teens. I feel like I’ve become an expert in this now, which is exactly what I wanted.

I’m such a nerd — I personally love the assignments. They made me go back and do the work instead of just taking it in. They helped me figure things out for myself and put it in my own perspective. I’ve used the assignments so many times when working with clients. Every assignment had a purpose.

As much as the science is important, the spiritual and emotional aspects of our cycle are as well, and I feel like there’s an incredible balance between the two. Everything you had us do exposed us to information and processes we’ll use with clients — there’s no busy work, there’s nothing that’s not necessary. Every single assignment is 100% tangible in the sense that I’ll use it again and refer back to it. Seeing all these real-life scenarios, not just textbook charts, expanded the ways I can support clients. I just feel like you totally upped the quality of my business!

Nikki Zavitz, B.Ed, Menstrual Cycle Awareness & Body Literacy Advocate, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “The way cervical mucus charting is done in FAMM was life-changing.”
I had been working as a fertility awareness educator for about a year or so and I had done another training. I was enjoying doing the birth control part of fertility awareness but I noticed that a lot of women were coming to me saying, ‘I think I might have PCOS’ or ‘Will fertility awareness be right for me because I have really irregular cycles?’ or ‘Can you help me with period pain?’ — and I felt very underqualified and inexperienced in that.

Despite all of my previous training — over two or three years practicing and doing a fertility awareness teacher training — there were several things that hadn’t quite clicked, like cervical mucus, which obviously is the biggest part. The way the cervical mucus charting is done in FAMM — to me, it’s just life-changing because the level of detail was really profound and what I needed.

Isobel Ripley, Fertility Awareness Educator, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “My confidence has just absolutely hit a new level.”
I never actually doubted how incredibly informative, enriching, and empowering FAMM would be — but the confidence I have now versus the confidence I had six, seven months ago in this particular field — it’s a dramatic increase.

For anyone who knows a lot about this topic — there’s still so much more to learn. Not only for the things that you can do to help other people, but for yourself. For me, this is like the oxygen mask before everyone else. To actually be in the trenches and charting every month and going through the motions as a client, I learned so much about my own personal health — things I wouldn’t have picked up on the way I was charting before.

And the confidence to take on clients — my confidence in working with people has just absolutely hit a new level.

Yes, it’s an investment, but you get the return, and then you feel really, really good about how you can support your clients. If you’re on the fence, please do it. It’s a wonderful program.

Michelle Snyder, Nutrition Scientist and Fertility Awareness Educator
  • “It’s honestly been the most valuable certification I’ve done.”
I feel like I’ve done a lot of certification programs. And this one — it’s honestly been the most valuable because of the live aspect of it. I think a lot of health and wellness certifications these days are just online programs. They’re self-paced, which has a place and is valuable for other reasons, but having people to talk about cases with and ask questions live about what’s going on — it’s been extremely valuable.

I also really appreciated having to go through this process myself and learning about cycle tracking in a deeper way. I understood BBT, but everything else was brand new to me — all of the cycle parameters and how to assess somebody’s health based on those parameters — It’s so impactful.

Lauren Mallers, Integrative Health Practitioner, Founder of Calibrate Health & Wellness, FAMM Certified Practitioner
  • “FAMM exceeded my expectations.”
I don’t know if you remember, but I messaged you before the program, and I had FOMO every time I heard a commercial for it on your podcast. I reached out and I said, ‘Hey, I have a bunch of knowledge and, will there be enough value in here for me?’ And without a doubt, you said yes.

And FAMM has exceeded my expectations of the value I thought I would get out of it. Not just from our live sessions, but access to the portal. I am constantly learning. There are so many options and opportunities for learning, whether it’s visually with the books, the references, the handouts, or the videos.

And the client work — being able to bring our clients to class and have your eyes and everyone else’s eyes on it — it’s invaluable. It’s been a really, really, really awesome opportunity to participate in this program.

I’m asking deeper questions now — like replenishment and nourishment. I just have more resources for clients and I have more confidence with my recommendations because I know that you’ve done a ton of research. And I have the confidence to apply everything I’ve learned with my clients and patients.

We Asked

They Answered

We asked for honest feedback. Here’s what our practitioners told us about FAMM.

What is your favourite aspect of the FAMM program?

“The weekly calls! They keep me accountable, I always learn new things, and I love getting time with Lisa.”

“The handouts, the protocol, the guest speakers, the checklists, the assignments, the reading lists, the weekly meetings, THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS, handouts, ALL OF IT.”

“Lisa’s availability! It’s really nice being able to message her and her team on Slack and ask questions during our class times.”

“How comprehensive it is, how it forces me to slow down through the books to really absorb the information, looking at so many charts as examples, being able to use the strategies for myself.”

“Love all of the Q & A sessions. It is great to learn from everyone else’s experience and questions.”

“I appreciate being able to ask questions in the Slack group, I actually didn’t think I’d find that as valuable as I do. I love all the handouts too, they’ve been helpful.”

“I really appreciate the wide range of material we’re covering. The program is incredibly thorough.”

“Being able to take clients through the program. The depth of the questions on the assignments. The amount of research and studies — I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface!”

“Lisa’s generosity of time and materials.”

What aspect of FAMM has been most valuable for your professional practice?

“A clear strategy/road map on HOW to work with clients effectively. How to plan sessions, stay organized and have a plan with a variety of different clients for their specific needs.”

“The different protocols for the varied presenting situations, and the accompanying evidence to help my clients make informed choices.”

“Protocols! Chart interpretation is so fascinating but the way that you’ve outlined next steps, how clients can address their issues is so helpful!”

“The client handouts are absolute gold! Thank you for providing such valuable resources to us!”

“All of the research that is organized and available to us, the outlined protocols, and the newfound community of people who are also doing what I’m doing!”

“The confidence to actually become a practitioner, and high-quality tools to address someone’s issues (checklists, research folders, etc). That alone is invaluable!”

“It’s given me so much more confidence in supporting my clients. It’s filled the gaps in my knowledge.”

“The protocols are so well organized and laid out. I look forward to using them with clients.”

“How everything Lisa teaches is backed by research.”

What was the single most significant takeaway from your enrollment in FAMM?

“Understanding what it takes to teach a systemized approach to fertility awareness. My confidence has skyrocketed.”

“The foundational factors. I loved how simply these were laid out.”

“The real-time data points I can use with clients are invaluable. I’ve built a practice based on data analysis, but it’s been lab work based. It’s so cool to have real-time data from your body, and the fact that I can teach this to clients is so empowering for both of us.”

“FAMM can be taught in a way that is systematic, repeatable and effective, with special consideration given for each person’s individual needs.”

“The cycle doesn’t lie! I’ve loved seeing in my own charts and in clients’ and fellow students’ presentations that it’s clear when changes have been made.”

“The power of understanding the reproductive cycle and what that can tell you about your overall health and give you a way to advocate for yourself.”

“There are so many things. I think ultimately it gave me more confidence to go out and really do the work. I had been doing it before, but somewhat insecure about my abilities to help people substantially.”

Did you find the private Slack group useful?

“Super helpful! It’s like having Lisa in your back pocket at all times :)”

“So appreciated.”

“YES! Love that there is continuous support.”

“YES. I so appreciate how quick you are to respond.”

“Love the private slack! Get all our questions answered right away! Love hearing from others too.”

Anything else you want us to know?

“This was a phenomenal experience. Thank you for creating FAMM. This program should be the minimum standard for fertility educator education.”

“I can’t believe the program is ending. I’m looking forward to the next chapter in the alumni program. Thank you for making this serious topic fun and engaging!”

“I don’t have any suggestions at this point. I am really blown away by all you have prepared and shared with us. The program is awesome. I don’t know how you have the time and energy to create all you have shared with us!”

“Thank you for this program. I will wear my FAMM Certified Practitioner title with such pride. This is such a good quality course.”
